Reasons to enter AUCA?

AUCA is an international university offering a high-quality, American-style liberal arts education and the first university in Central Asia to offer US Accredited Diplomas in the Liberal Arts through a partnership with Bard College. All AUCA graduates receive two types of diplomas: American and Kyrgyz. Graduates of American Studies, Anthropology, Economics, European Studies, International and Comparative Politics, Journalism and Mass Communications, Psychology, Sociology, and Software Engineering will receive a US accredited Bard College Diploma as well as the AUCA Kyrgyz State Diploma.  Academic degrees obtained at AUCA are acknowledged worldwide since AUCA uses the international standard credit-hour system.

Our University attracts some of the best professors from across the region and around the world who truly inspire and get inspiration from working with our students. The student to faculty ratio at AUCA is 10:1, so each student enjoys a relatively high degree of personal attention.

What are the admissions procedures at AUCA?

Step 1: Exams

All applicants must pass a test of English language proficiency as well as entrance exams.  Native English speakers are not required to submit proof of English language proficiency.

Applicants may either take exams locally or submit international exams (TOEFL or IELTS for proof of English proficiency; SAT or ACT for undergraduate applications; GRE or GMAT for MBA applications). 

Local examinations (Test of English Language Proficiency and the AUCA Admission Exam) are administered in Bishkek on the following dates:

First Round of Admissions:
TOELP Exam Dates: February 13 and February 27, 2010
AUCA Admission Exam Dates: February 14 and February 28, 2010

Second Round of Admissions:
TOELP Exam Dates: June 12, June 19 and July 1, 2010
AUCA Admission Exam Dates: June 13, June 20 and July 2, 2010

Step 2: Application

After passing both the a test of English language and entrance exams, applicants should submit a set of documents to the Admissions Office, which includes:

  1. application;
  2. secondary education certificate (original or certified copy); Bachelor’s diploma for MBA;
  3. passport copy (original will be required for verification);
  4. 4 passport-style photographs 3 x 4 cm;
  5. medical certificate of 086-Y form;
  6. 500 soms for application processing.

Application deadlines:

  • First Round of Admissions: March 3, 2010
  • Second Round of Admissions: July 7, 2010  
  • Step 3: Interview

    After submission of the application, supporting documents, and exam scores, applicants will take part in an interview with the academic department.  The interview lasts 10 - 15 minutes and is conducted in English.  Only applicants who submit their applications on time will be eligible to sit for an interview. 

    Interview dates:

    • First Round of Admissions: March 9 - 12, 2010
    • Second Round of Admissions: July 12 - 16, 2010

    Final admission recommendations are based on exam results and interview.

    What are the entrance exams?

    The general requirement for all applicants is to have a passing score on a test of English language proficiency.  The minimum acceptible score is a TOELP/TOEFL PBT score of 480 (TOEFL iBT 54 or IELTS 5).

    In addition, applicants must pass entrance examinations.  The university administers a general AUCA Admission Exam that is composed of two parts: an exam of high school mathematics proficiency and essay exam.  For full details about the AUCA Admission Exam as well as all international exams that AUCA accepts, please visit our exam information page: http://auca.kg/en/admissions/exams

    What extracurricular activities are available?

    Student life at AUCA is diverse and never dull. Throughout the academic year the Student Affairs Office organizes various performances and concerts featuring the many talents of our students. AUCA students have gained a reputation for producing highly entertaining programs and events, such as Orientation Week, Spirit Week, Initiation, Commencement, Diversity Week, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, Halloween, St. Valentine’s Day and many others.

    The Student Senate is a unique form of self-government at AUCA that allows students to take active part in making important decisions that will affect AUCA. Furthermore, students participate in various athletic events and participate in more than 20 clubs and organizations. This not only provides entertainment, but allows students to explore their passions and creativity while developing their leadership and organizational skills.

    Can AUCA alumni continue their education abroad?

    Yes. Many AUCA graduates have graduated from or are pursuing advanced degrees at leading universities in the U.K., France, Germany, Hungary, Russia, Sweden, Holland, and the U.S.A. Moreover, thanks to a cooperative agreement, graduates of Master’s programs at Indiana University have returned to AUCA to teach courses in their specialties.

    What percentage of AUCA alumni have successfully found employment?

    Employers are eager to hire AUCA alumni and even undergraduates as they consistently satisfy their high professional requirements. Approximately 95% of all AUCA graduates have secured employment upon graduation with such presitigious companies as the Australia National Bank, Deutsche Bank, Citibank, Cisco Systems, Google, UNDP, USAID, OSCE, World Bank, Asian Development Bank, National Bank of the Kyrgyz Republic, Demir International Bank, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ministry of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kyrgyz Altyn, Kumtor Operating Company, Procter & Gamble, Reemstma, ACCELS, Helvetas, Carana and Pragma corporations, BITEL, AREOPAG, Gosenergosbyt, Central Asian Group, Turkish Airlines, KOORT, Times of Central Asia, RIF, Vecherni Bishkek, Internews Agency among others.

    Can a student transfer to AUCA from another university?

    Yes. AUCA welcomes sophomores and juniors from other universities. The prospective student is required to pass AUCA entrance examinations or submit international exam results.
