Course description:

This course is designed for students who are beginning to learn Spanish.

Course tasks:  

The course will provide its students with the following language competences:  

• listening comprehension
• reading skills
• interactive communication
• writing skills

Focus group:

The course is for students who want to acquire basic Spanish language skills.

Expected results:

Upon completion of the course, students will have developed grammatical skills and a basic vocabulary in Spanish, and have started working on developing their spoken Spanish. They will also acquire reading comprehension skills for simple texts in Spanish.

Structure of the course:

First stage:

Intensive study of grammar and expansion of vocabulary through practice and exercises; creative implementation of new knowledge in small interactive dialogues in the following situations:

• greeting;
• introduction;
• saying goodbye;
• expressing gratitude;
• congratulations;
• expressing excuse; and
• formal and informal address.

Second stage:

 Further development of communication skills in common every-day situations, such as:

• seasons, months, days of the week and dates;
• study/work, job and hobbies;
• social status, family and relatives;
• my family, my home, my city, my country;
• Spain and Spanish people;
• daily routine;
• weekend and holidays;
• shopping: at the grocery store, at the department store;
• my friend, my role-model; and
• my dreams, my plans.
