Update Regarding the Work and Travel Program Reminder about 100-level Credit Limit History of Kyrgyzstan Class and State Exam Clarification of Arts & Sports Requirement Military Service Information for Male Kyrgyz Students
Please be informed that beginning in fall 2012, a new policy will go into effect regarding students who participate in the Work and Travel program. Over the years, we have noticed that a significant number of students who attend this program fail to return to AUCA in time for the start of the fall semester. This jeopardizes their academic performance and makes teaching the classes they take complicated for the faculty, thereby negatively affecting the education of other students in the class. At least in part in order to make it easier for students on the Work and Travel program to return in time for the fall semester, we have decided to push the beginning of the semester one week later, and, as you will have noticed, classes will begin on September 3 this coming year. After having made this concession, however, we are not willing to continue to countenance the late arrival of students from the Work and Travel program. We hereby make it known that any student who has participated in Work and Travel during the summer of 2012 and who does not appear in person to see his/her advisor before the end of the first week of classes (that is, by Friday, September 7, 2012) will not be permitted to make any schedule adjustments to the academic program he/she chose during the spring pre-registration period. No exceptions to this policy will be made. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are back in time for the beginning of the fall semester. If the sanction we have proposed does not prove to be sufficient to prevent the problem of late arrival of Work and Travel students, AUCA is prepared to take further action up to and including banning participation of our students on this program in the future.
As a reminder, students are only permitted to count 60 credits of 100-level courses towards their degrees (this is an AUCA graduation requirement). Some 100-level credits will be part of the academic major, while the majority come from General Education requirements. Students are advised to review their transcripts each semester to determine how many 100-level credits they have completed and to plan accordingly for the future. Students who exceed the 60 100-credit limit will be required to complete additional 200+ level credits beyond 144 to graduate (which means students would need to take summer classes, overload their fall/spring schedule in the fourth year or possibly delay graduation). If you have any questions about this graduation requirement, please meet with your academic advisor.
All students should enroll in History of Kyrgyzstan (HIST 208) during the fall or spring semester of the sophomore year. The State History Exam will be administered at the end of that academic year. If you are a junior or senior and have not yet taken the exam, please check with the Office of the Registrar to determine when you will be scheduled to do so.
Below is the updated list of Arts & Sports requirements. If you have any questions about these requirements, please contact your Academic Advisor or the Office of the Registrar.
Arts & Sports Requirements (updated September 21, 2011)
Please note: For all academic years, Arts courses may overlap General Education, Major or Elective requirements.
For seniors (class who entered in fall 2008):
All majors (except BA and IBL) are required to complete 4 credits of Sports AND 6 credits of Arts.
BA and IBL majors are required to complete any combination of 6 credits in Arts/Sports to satisfy the Ministry of Education requirement.
Please note: students who opt to overlap Arts courses with General Education will need to complete additional approved credits to ensure that they satisfy the minimum 51 required credits of General Education.
For juniors (class who entered in fall 2009):
All majors (except BA and IBL) are required to complete 4 credits in Sports AND 6 credits in Arts.
BA and IBL majors are required to complete any combination of 6 credits in Arts/Sports to satisfy the Ministry of Education requirement.
Please note: students who opt to overlap Arts courses with General Education will need to complete additional approved credits to ensure that they satisfy the minimum 54 required credits of General Education.
For sophomores (class who entered in fall 2010):
All majors (except BA and IBL) are required to complete 6 credits in Sports AND 6 credits in Arts.
BA and IBL majors are required to complete 6 credits in Sports to satisfy the Ministry of Education requirement.
For first-year students (who entered in fall 2011):
All majors (except BA and IBL) are required to complete 6 credits in Sports AND 6 credits in Arts.
BA and IBL majors are required to complete 6 credits in Sports to satisfy the Ministry of Education requirement.
Military Service Information for Male Kyrgyz Students Уважаемые студенты-мужчины. Информируем вас о порядке прохождения воинской службы в Кыргызской Республике. В соответствии Постановлением Правительства КР от 15 января 2010 года N 14 "Об упразднении военных факультетов и кафедр, созданных при гражданских высших учебных заведениях республики", набор студентов гражданских высших учебных заведений на военные факультеты и кафедры, за исключением межвузовского военного факультета Кыргызского государственного университета строительства, транспорта и архитектуры имени И.Исанова, межвузовского военного факультета Ошского технологического университета, военной кафедры Кыргызской государственной медицинской академии, с начала 2010 учебного года прекращен.
Военнообязанные лица подлежат следующим видам служб. 1. Призыв граждан на срочную военную службу
1. Призыву на срочную военную службу подлежат граждане мужского пола в возрасте от восемнадцати до двадцати семи лет, не имеющие права на отсрочку от призыва на военную службу, права на освобождение от призыва на военную службу либо потерявшие право на отсрочку от призыва на военную службу.
2. Служба мобилизационном резерве
Граждане Кыргызской Республики, не прошедшие военную или альтернативную службу, находящиеся за границей, по возвращении их на постоянное место жительства в республику, при отсутствии права на отсрочку или освобождение от службы, в возрасте до двадцати семи лет призываются на военную службу на общих основаниях, а достигшие двадцати семи лет и старше, - зачисляются в запас военнообязанных второй категории и выплачивают сумму в размере 300 расчетных показателей.
Граждане в возрасте от восемнадцати до двадцати семи лет, не имеющие права на отсрочку или освобождение от призыва, по состоянию здоровья годные к военной службе, имеют право по собственному желанию проходить службу в призывном мобилизационном резерве. Служба в призывном мобилизационном резерве предусматривает внесение призывниками денежных взносов на специальный счет Министерства обороны. Сумма денежных взносов устанавливается в размере 120 расчетных показателей с учетом налогов (12000 сомов).
На службу призываются граждане мужского пола, которым ко дню призыва исполняется 18 лет.
По результатам медицинского освидетельствования и на основании заявления призывника районная (городская) призывная комиссия выносит соответствующее решение.
Военная служба в призывном мобилизационном резерве устанавливается сроком один месяц в ходе прохождения военных сборов в учебных центрах Министерства обороны.
3. Альтернативная служба
Альтернативная служба - вид службы, предоставляемый гражданам Кыргызской Республики взамен срочной военной службы, учитывая их возраст, религиозные убеждения, семейное положение, наличие судимости или состояние здоровья.
Гражданин мужского пола в возрасте от восемнадцати до двадцати семи лет, не имеющий права на отсрочку от призыва либо утративший право на отсрочку от призыва, не прошедший срочную военную службу или службу в призывном мобилизационном резерве: подлежит призыву на альтернативную службу, если: - он является членом зарегистрированной религиозной организации, вероучение которой не допускает пользование оружием и службу в Вооруженных Силах; - он ранее был судим за уголовное преступление; - он по состоянию здоровья имеет ограничения к несению военной службы, предусмотренные в Положении о медицинском освидетельствовании; имеет право на прохождение альтернативной службы, если: - он из семьи, в которой, кроме призываемого, имеется четверо и более детей в возрасте до восемнадцати лет и призывник является старшим из детей; - он из семьи, в которой один из родителей является инвалидом I или II группы, и призывник в ней является кормильцем семьи; - он имеет одного из родителей или брата (сестру), ставших инвалидами в период прохождения военной службы либо позже в связи с увечьями, ранениями, травмами (контузиями) и заболеваниями, полученными в период прохождения военной службы; - он имеет одного из родителей или брата (сестру), погибших (умерших) в период прохождения военной службы либо позже в связи с увечьями, ранениями, травмами (контузиями) и заболеваниями, полученными в период прохождения военной службы; - он имеет жену и одного ребенка; - он является единственным сыном в семье, родители которого достигли пенсионного возраста; - он является единственным сыном одинокой матери (отца); - он имеет одного родного брата в возрасте до восемнадцати лет (либо старше восемнадцати лет, но являющегося инвалидом I или II группы), который находится на иждивении у одинокой матери, при отсутствии в семье других детей; - он является единственным ребенком в семье, потерявшим отца и мать; - он достиг двадцатичетырехлетнего возраста и в связи с невостребованностью не прошел срочную военную службу или службу в призывном мобилизационном резерве.
Срок альтернативной службы составляет тридцать шесть месяцев.
Размер денежных взносов составляет 120 расчетных показателей за весь период альтернативной службы (12000 сомов).
