Need-based Scholarships

AUCA provides educational services in a region of low incomes where tuition is perceived to be high and unaffordable for many. So that families can send their children to AUCA, the University has established a comprehensive scholarship program that facilitates the attractiveness of the University to 1,200 highly talented individuals. AUCA provides scholarships based on merit and need within the limit of its financial resources. It also provides a few scholarships based purely on excellent academic ability regardless of need.*

Need-based Scholarships for Kyrgyz Students

Minimum criteria for scholarships for prospective students:

  • Proof of financial difficulty (with supporting documentation)
  • Math test score of at least 44 (for Business Administration and Economics), and at least 35for other AUCA departments.
  • Pass a written examination with a score 80 or higher
  • Pass an interview with a score 16 or higher

Minimum criteria for scholarships for current students applying for the first time:

  • Proof of financial difficulty (with supporting documentation)
  • An overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 2.8 (where the overall GPA is less or equal 2.99, the aid amount will not exceed KGS 19,150)

Minimum criteria for existing Students already in receipt of Scholarship:

  • An overall GPA of at least 2.8 (where an overall GPA is less or equal 2.99, the aid amount will be limited to KGS 19,150)
  • The financial status of the student (or family) has not changed significantly (at least 20%)

Disability Scholarships
Amount: up to 80% tuition
Available to applicants who are accepted into one of AUCA’s programs as full-time student, maintain an overall GPA at least 2.8 (as an existing student), can demonstrate financial need, and have a disability category of 1 or 2.

Orphan Scholarships
Amount: up to 80% tuition
Available to applicants who are accepted into one of AUCA’s programs as full-time student, maintain an overall GPA at least 2.8 (as an existing student), and can demonstrate financial need.


Scholarships for students from CIS
(Not for students studying Business Administration and Software Engineering)

Open Society Institute (OSI) Scholarships

These are awarded to Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) applicants according to annual quotas for particular countries: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia and Turkmenistan. Quotas are determined annually by the Financial Aid Committee with advice from the Financial Aid Office and Admissions Office, and according to AUCA admissions strategy.

Full scholarships (free tuition, housing allowance and stipend) are awarded based on the results of the entrance exams and academic qualifications. The number of CIS students awarded full scholarships depends on the size of the grant received by AUCA.

Minimum criteria for OSI scholarships for prospective students from CIS countries:

  • Proof of financial difficulty (with supporting documentation)
  • TOEFL score of at least 550 (exceptions are possible if an insufficient number of qualified students apply)
  • Math test score of at least 38 (if required)
  • Pass a written examination with a score 80 or higher
  • Pass an interview with a score 16 or higher

If a student’s overall GPA falls to less than 3.0, scholarship will be withdrawn without the possibility of renewal.

Higher Education Support Program (HESP) Scholarships - Afghanistan (3 cohorts, 10 female students)

HESP Scholarships are available to female applicants from Afghanistan and are full scholarships (free tuition, housing allowance, and monthly stipend) covering one year of study in the AUCA Preparatory Program, and upon successful completion of the Preparatory Program and admissions to an AUCA bachelor's degree program, the scholarship covers a full undergraduate study program of 4 academic years (8 semesters total).  Applications and inquiries should be made directly to the Foundation Open Society Institute Offices in Kabul, Afghanistan.  A GPA of less than 2.8 will result in the scholarship award being withdrawn without the possibility of renewal, however the student may still apply for a need-based scholarship.  The application form is available here: /upload/docs/Admissions/HESP_Application_10.doc

Scholarships from the U.S. – Central Asian Educational Foundation (CAEF)

Amount: between 50% and 100% tuition
These scholarships are granted for eight semesters to first-year students of the Business Administration program and Economics program. This aid is provided to Central Asian students who have excelled at the entrance examinations and come from poor families. TASP Scholarships for Turkmen students

The Turkmen Assistance Scholarship Program (TASP) Scholarships are administered directly by the donor organization. Applications should be made directly to TASP in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Turkmenistan Youth and Civic Values Foundation Scholarships for Turkmen students

The Turkmenistan Youth and Civic Values Foundation (TYCVF) offers the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship to Turkmen students specifically for study at AUCA.  Scholarships are administered directly by the donor organization. Aga-Khan Foundation Scholarships for students from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Syria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Madagascar, France, Portugal, United Kingdom, United States of America, and Canada

US Embassy scholarships for Tajik Freshmen

The US Embassy awards full scholarships (full tuition, houing allowance and stipend) for eight Tajik students for eight semesters at AUCA.

Eligibility criteria for US Embassy scholarships:

  • Proof of financial difficulty (with supporting documentation)
  • TOEFL score of at least 480
  • Math test score of at least 35 (if required)
  • Pass a written examination with a score 80 or higher
  • Pass an interview with a score 16 or higher 

*Please be aware that all the scholarships are granted for one year and will be extended only if the applicants meet all the requirements.

** Please be aware that AUCA students can apply for only one type of scholarship.
